Detailed Plan. Project
location: Reggio Emilia
client: Municipality of Reggio Emilia
year: 2000

The revitalisation of the historic complex of the Palazzo Ducale in Rivalta is one of cultural importance for the city of Reggio Emilia revoking the historic facts about the Este family. Located in the periurban area of the city, its architecture in relation to the territorial scale of the Parco del Crostolo, make it stand out as a potentially unique experience at regional level, not only as far as the restoration works in itself and the revitalisation of the building complex, but also as an opportunity to create an efficient synergy between public (noble wing and park) and private (rural court) investments. Furthermore, the site is a vital part of the heritage consisting of Este’s venues, from the Palazzo Ducale in Rivalta to the Villa Rivaltella and the Villa d’Este-Vasca Corbelli. The purpose of the Detailed Plan is primarily to recover and restore the already existing buildings, and to recompose their architectural structure, aiming to preserve the historic and monumental values of the complex throughout the whole redevelopment process.
