Project and construction management
location: Reggio Emilia
client: Private
year: 2005

The interested area has a surface of 47,000 square metres, including pieces of land belonging to the “ancient countryside” located within the consolidated urban fabric, and it merges directly with the ancient route “Via Emilia”. The project completes the already existing residential fabric, preserving wide not-yet-built-on lots of land, respecting the historic value of the Via Emilia, in order to secure a wide greenbelt between the housing development and the road network, and therefore preserve the surroundings and the environmental conditions. The planning consists of two independent courts in a homogeneous design, involving the creation of a panoramic passageway towards the rearward countryside. The courts result from the combination of L plan volumes, standing out for the finely-balanced interplay between different heights, in a studied composition of refined simplicity and harmony in all its parts. The project emphasises its parts through chromatic difference, accomplished through a dialogue between light-coloured exposed brick and plaster “solids” for light hues, and wood and glass “voids” for openings.
